Personality Type Interview: INTJ Drew

interview

Yippe! Back and ready to finish posting these! The interviewee, Drew, was really fun to talk with and I loved reading his answers.

Name: Drew Kirst

Age: 16

Personality Type: INTJ

Gender: Male

A bit about me: I’m a guitarist/singer/songwriter who lives on a small hobby farm and has been homeschooled all his life. I enjoy reading and writing and am approximately 98.2% awesome.

Me: When taking the test, did you ever receive a result that differs from your personality type now? Or have you always consistently been this type?

Drew: Well, I’ve only taken the test two or three times… I’ve always got the same type except once when it was INTP instead of INTJ.

Do you think your personality type affects your writing at all?

D: I would assume so… I put a bit of my personality into everything– my music, my interactions with people, my own thoughts… It would logically follow that it affects my writing as well.

Do you fit into any of your personality type stereotypes?

D: From what I’ve read, pretty much all of them. There are one or two little things that fit the INTP a bit better, but for the most part it’s right on.

How do you handle positive emotions?

D: You say that like positive emotions are a bad and/or unusual thing and need to be dealt with ๐Ÿ˜› lol I’ma rephrase the question a tiny bit if you don’t mind to make it a bit more clear… If its not how you intended it just let me know and I’ll give you a different answer ๐Ÿ™‚

How do you react to positive emotions?

But even that isn’t perfect… Hmm. Because that raises the question, someone else’s positive emotions or your own? I’m going to assume my own, because it seems to make the most sense in light of the current interview lol
It kind of depends, I think… If they’re caused by another person, my first reaction is to try to cause them back. For example if someone does something to make me happy(says something nice, gives me a gift, etc) I generally try to do the same for them. Now, looking at that from the viewpoint of my personality, I don’t know if it’s because I’m a nice guy, I just feel like we have to be even and I can’t be outdone by someone else, so whatever they do I have to do right back. That’s not running through my head all the time, but it’s there, deep down.
Now if positive emotions are coming from an inanimate or abstract source, like a book or a package from Grandma who lives five hours away, I can’t exactly make the book feel as happy as it made me feel, or just send grandma a package right back. So instead I try to use a happy feeling to inspire me in something– my writing, my music, or something else I might be working on.

Okay, that’s probably a lot more than you were looking for… Props for putting up with my ramblings lol

How INTJ of you ๐Ÿ˜› Alright the next question is: How do you handle/react to negative emotions?

D: I suppose correcting that WAS pretty INTJ of me XD

Negative emotions are different. Pretty simple, actually. I isolate myself and spend (a possibly unhealthy amount of) time thinking about why I’m right and whatever is causing my negative emotions is wrong. Simple! ๐Ÿ™‚ Lol eventually I read a book or start playing my guitar or something and kinda just let it go.

How do you deal with confrontation?

D: Hmm… That depends on who’s right… If I can see the confronter’s point, I generally take it really well, kinda talk it over and figure out how to do it better next time. If, on the other hand, the confronter has no idea what s/he’s talking about, I won’t have it. If I’m right, and I know for a fact I’m right, I will make very sure that you know for a fact that I’m right. I tend not to care who you are or what you think when it comes to that.

How do you take compliments?

D: Ugh, compliments are hard… I normally just try to act thankful for a minute and then sorta change the subject or deflect the attention to someone else… Not sure why, but being complimented really makes me feel awkward…

Whatโ€™s a big misunderstanding about your type?

D: We always think we’re right. that’s not entirely true, or at least not for me. Either I KNOW I’m right, or I’m willing to accept that maybe I’m not this time– but I’ll learn from it so I will be next time! Lol

Whatโ€™s a positive trait of your personality type?

D: I’m always right, of course! Lol jk… I would say a positive trait about my personality is that I always want to know the answer, so I’m very motivated to listen and learn. I’m not one to talk a lot, I would much rather listen to what others have to say, and then I test it against what I know or what someone else said and let the truth rise to the top. So in a way, I am always right… But only because I’m highly motivated to make sure of it.

Whatโ€™s a negative trait?

D: A negative trait of my personality is that I’m prone to pridefulness, probably more than most other personalities would be.

What personality types do you get along with the most?

D: Mostly other xNTx types I think, preferably introverts but not necessarily.

What personality types do you not get along with?

D: I generally don’t get along with anyone with S or F. Not necessarily both.

Mind naming some of your hobbies?
D: Reading, writing, singing, songwriting, playing guitar, listening to music, running.

What are you favorite books?

D: Oh, gosh, that’s tough… I don’t even know XP I guess a few I’ve liked are Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, the Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messenger, Pilgrim’s Progress, and others like those. I would say LOTR but I never personally read all the books myself, just had them read to me when I was younger(but still old enough to understand the basic concept) so I feel like I need to do that myself before I can claim that lol

Favorite movies?

D: Hmm… I don’t really watch a lot of movies and I enjoy even fewer… I don’t think I could pick a favorite… I guess LOTR jumps out when I compare to any others I can think of. I’ll go with that.

Favorite shows?

D:Well, when you don’t have a TV or netflix or really any time to watch TV shows, the only ones you catch snippets of tend to be your favorites… I’d say Leverage and Doctor Who.

Youโ€™re about to battle a dragon. What do you do?

D: I would scout it out as much as possible so I know what I’m up against, and then use that knowledge to decide what type of equipment I would need, what weaknesses to take advantage of, etc. knowledge is power, they say ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you think you could handle being a character in your own stories?
D: Hmm… That depends on which stories. I write a pretty big variety. For instance, I could totally handle being in my latest one, because it’s about my dream career and I could totally see myself doing it. If it were one of my insanely complicated Fantasy stories, on the other hand, I’m not so sure. I’d like to think so, but until tested I can neither confirm nor deny that. And I don’t think it’ll be tested any time soon ๐Ÿ˜›
